Leak Detection in Lighthouse Point, FL

Trusted Leak Detection in Lighthouse Point, FL

A water bill that creeps up month after month with no clear explanation is one of the most common reasons homeowners call us about leak detection in Lighthouse Point. The water loss shows up clearly on the meter, even when nothing in the house gives away where it's going. Trust Rooter uses acoustic listening devices, thermal imaging, and pressure testing to find these hidden leaks without cutting into walls or breaking up concrete to do it. Keep reading for a closer look at how each detection method works and which one tends to find what.

Why Hidden Leaks Are Harder to Locate

Leak Detection in Lighthouse Point, FL

A toilet leak drips slowly into the bowl, a slab leak seeps into the ground beneath your foundation, and a basement leak wicks moisture into concrete without pooling on the surface. Once visible damage appears, the leak has usually been running for weeks.

The location of the pipe matters a lot here. Pipes buried under a concrete slab, routed inside wall cavities, or running beneath a yard give no obvious signs at the point of failure. The moisture migrates along the path of least resistance, so damage shows up somewhere other than the source. That's what makes water leak detection in Lighthouse Point more technical than people expect.

Chasing the damage instead of the source wastes time and money. A wet spot on the ceiling might trace back to a bathroom sink leak two rooms over, or a toilet leak that's been running along a joist.

How Acoustic Detection Pinpoints Leaks Behind Walls

Pressurized pipes make noise when water escapes through a crack or joint. Acoustic listening devices amplify that sound and let a technician trace it along the pipe's path until the signal peaks. The peak marks the leak location within a few inches, which means repairs stay targeted instead of exploratory.

This method works especially well for water leak detection in Lighthouse Point because many homes here were built in the 1970s and 1980s with copper supply lines that have since corroded at the fittings. The leak noise from a pinhole in a copper pipe is distinct and picks up clearly on ground microphones and contact sensors. A kitchen sink leak behind the cabinet wall, for example, produces a consistent hiss that travels through the drywall and registers on the sensor.

Acoustic detection doesn't require any demolition to gather data. The technician maps the pipe run, listens at intervals, and narrows the location, which keeps the repair footprint small.

The Role of Thermal Imaging in Finding Slab Leaks

A slab leak releases water into the soil beneath your foundation or against the concrete. The water is either warmer or cooler than the surrounding slab, depending on whether it comes from a hot or cold supply line. A thermal imaging camera picks up the temperature difference and displays it as a color contrast on the screen.

The camera scans the floor surface without contact. Hot supply line leaks show up as bright areas spreading outward from the pipe path. Cold line leaks appear cooler than the surrounding concrete. Either way, the technician can trace the shape of the thermal signature back to the likely source before committing to any concrete cutting.

Thermal imaging is one of the most reliable tools for slab leak work in South Florida, specifically because slab construction is the standard here. Many homes in Lighthouse Point have no crawl space, so the pipes have no accessible path. Imaging the slab surface first eliminates guesswork and reduces the number of cuts required for water leak repair in Lighthouse Point.

Why Water Pressure Testing Is a Standard Part of the Process

Pressure testing involves isolating a section of pipe, pressurizing it with air or water, and monitoring whether it holds. A drop in pressure confirms a breach somewhere in that section. This method doesn't pinpoint the exact leak location on its own, but it confirms whether a leak exists and roughly where it falls within the system. Technicians use pressure testing alongside acoustic and thermal methods for a few specific situations:

  • Confirming a slab leak before thermal imaging begins
  • Verifying that a water leak repair in Lighthouse Point sealed the breach completely
  • Testing supply lines in older homes before a renovation disturbs the pipes

Pressure testing also catches leaks that acoustic equipment misses. A slow seep through a deteriorating joint may not produce enough sound to register, but it will drop line pressure measurably within a few minutes. Running both tests together gives a more complete picture.

How Early Detection Limits the Scope of Repairs Needed

A small leak left running for sixty days causes substantially more damage than the same leak caught in the first week. Water that migrates into a wall cavity promotes mold growth within 24 to 48 hours under South Florida's humidity levels. A basement leak that saturates the footer can compromise the slab bond and create settlement risk. A toilet leak running continuously wastes between 200 and 400 gallons per day, depending on the severity.

A pinhole in a copper fitting that’s caught early requires a short section of pipe replacement and maybe a drywall patch. The same leak found after two months of damage may require mold remediation, drywall replacement across multiple bays, and subfloor repair on top of the pipe fix.

The cost difference between early and late detection runs into thousands of dollars in most cases. Scheduling a leak detection in Lighthouse Point at the first sign of unexplained meter movement, damp baseboards, or soft flooring keeps the repair within a more manageable scope.

What Our Customers Say About Our Services

Lee Everitt from Trust Rooter plumbing was here in 2 hrs after calling them because both toilets broke.  He fixed 1, but the other one was too old and rusted...we had 1 that worked which was fine because we wanted to get 2 new ones. We got the new ones and a vanity with a new sink. Janeen in the office scheduled prompt installation. Lee came back and installed the new fixtures and did a great job. He was courteous,  knowledgeable and meticulous.  I highly recommend Trust  Rooter for your plumbing needs.

Needed to replace an old leaking kitchen faucet with a new one we purchased at Home Depot.  Called Trust Rooter at 9:15AM and was given a two-hour window appointment of 12 Noon-2PM that day.  The service tech, Raul, soon called and asked if he could come an hour early.  We said "sure"! He was professional, personable, and very knowledgeable.  At the end, he checked to ensure there were no leaks.  He neatly finished the job in under an hour. We asked him a few questions about some upcoming projects we may have, including the replacement of a hot water heater and he took the time to explain the process and what to expect with that job.  He educated us as to how long the swap out would take and how it would be done.  We certainly would ask for Raul to do that replacement when the need arises. We are so happy we have been able to find a new plumbing service to fill the void of recently losing our plumber of many years.  It is rare to quickly feel comfortable with a service provider.  You can certainly Trust Rooter!

We woke up this morning to find that our dishwasher overflowed, and our kitchen was flooded. Needless to say it was a stressful Monday morning. The stress faded, once I spoke to Jeneane this morning. Jeneane was informative, kind, and a pleasure to work with - she helped me schedule my same day appointment, and I was able to get a free quote. The technician, Jose arrived within the 2 hour arrival window. Jose came out and fixed our garbage disposal. Before he did anything that would cost us money, he gave us 2 possible quotes based on a best case and worst case scenario. The cost was straightforward and reasonable which I appreciated. Jose educated us on what caused the issue and how to avoid it in the future. He was kind, courteous, respectful, and a pleasure to work with. I cannot recommend this company enough. I had to call back after everything was said and done just to thank them again for everything! I will certainly be using them if I run into any plumbing issues in the future. You guys have earned a loyal customer. If you’re considering using them, consider this your sign to call them now.
